 Nirenne Station: High Orbit
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 11:20 PM
Category: Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy

Wedge released a Jedi Academy, multiplayer map that is called Nirenne Station: High Orbit.
I was quite happy to see a map by Wedge, and "Nirenne Station" seems to be a great new addition to his already extensive collection of maps. This high orbit station has been created for the Map-Review geometry contest which has it's own set of specific rules. Basically, they were limited to 10 textures, and had to create their map within a fairly small area.
That is all on Jedi Knight Files.

Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 12:24 PM
Category: X-Men: Legends

Gaming Nexus has an interview posted up with Chris Palmisano, the Production Coordinator for X-Men Legends II: Rise of Apocalypse. Here is a quote from the article:
The final Boss count is 19. From this list players will find a lot of surprises from both the X-men Comics as well as other Marvel storylines. It would be hard to talk about all of them, but my favorites are Mr. Sinister, Sugarman, and Arch Angel.

XCN: What has been the main inspiration behind the game?
CP: Following the events of X-Men Legends 1, Apocalypse, a prolific mutant for the X-men Universe, identifies a perfect opportunity to take over the world. This attack forces the X-Men and their traditional rivals, The Brotherhood of Evil Mutants, to join forces for the first time in a video game.

 Shack News Previews Quake 4
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 6:50 AM
Category: Quake IV

Shack News posted up a Quake IV preview and here is a shot:
The second level was more visually interesting, putting you literally out in the trenches in the middle of a war-torn landscape. This is where you regroup with your squad, after which you are immediately sent out on a mission to a shield generator or something else equally inconvenient to human forces. You and your comrades battle through the Strogg forces in canals of dirt and metal, and it's nice to have such a distinct change in environment come so early on.
Check on that preview.

 X-Men Legends II Interview
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 3:49 PM
Category: X-Men: Legends

Game Cloud has posted up an interview with Matthew Paul of Activision who talks about the recently released X-Men Legends II.
Matthew Paul - No matter what platform you have, the game looks great. I think we’re one of the best looking PS2 games out there with some really great lighting effects. If you do buy the PC version, you won’t need a high end video card to play, but if you do have one, crank up all the settings and you’re in for a treat. Even the PSP looks great. I’ve had a number of people come ask me how we got the PSP to look so good, and it’s because Vicarious Visions, who is doing the PSP version, are masters of the handhelds. They’re pushing the PSP hardware so hard, I think we’re using every last bit of power and memory it has.
Here is the link to that interview.

Console Gold has a Quake 4 Hands-On Preview set up and here is a piece of what they have to say about it all:
Activision was kind enough to cart a group of intrepid journalists to scenic downtown San Francisco so we could check out the single-player portion of Quake 4 on both the PC and the Xbox 360. Yes, I’ve played with an Xbox 360. You may touch me, but by appointment only. For those who usually skip to the end, let me state clearly right now that the few levels of Quake 4 I played rocked me, hard.

Big Trouble In Little China 4
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 2:28 PM
Category: Soldier of Fortune II: Double Helix

Big Trouble In Little China 4 is a Soldier Of Fortune II, Deathmatch level by $a]v[uRa! ])R@G()N.
If you liked Hells Bells, you should have a good look at this map. Though the gameplay and layout is similar to Hells Bells, the use of textures is way different. The map has some houses in it (which aren't accesable), you can get up to the roofs by walking up the ladders. The streets are wider then in Hells Bells, which is in my opinion good. Do you like sniper maps? If so, this is a nice map to add to your collection.
That's all on Soffiles.

 Arevass Review
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 6:39 PM
Category: Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy

It's been awhile since I updated about something on Map Review but just now I noticed Wedge just posted a review for Arevass, which is a Jedi Academy Free For All map.
Not since Ente's PADmaps have I seen such a level of detail and such a great layout in a map! Arevass took my breath away just as the PADStation did when I first played it. Arevass is set in a canyon with trees, ancient ruins, and a river. It is worth a close look by players and mappers alike.
Go read that Arevass review and if you want to see a few screens click on the links under Download Mirrors. For some reason no screens appear on the review page but maybe Wedge is working on that. [edit Sept 13: The screenshots have all been fixed and now appear on the page.]

The plot of X-Men Legends II has the ancient supervillain Apocalypse emerging from the shadows to--what else?--subjugate the world. He proves to be so powerful that Magneto and his followers are forced to join forces with Professor X and the X-Men in order to have any chance of defeating him.

Dan Vondrak Talks X-Men Legends II
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 7:18 AM
Category: X-Men: Legends

Over on GameZone I spotted that Raven’s Dan Vondrak talks about X-Men Legends II and here is a clip:
Dan: “Depending on who you are as a character, the conversations will change. People will treat you differently if you have an X-Man on the team or a Brotherhood on the team. There are also different team bonuses. If you pick just the Brotherhood team, you may get Brotherhood Bash – so you get bonuses like that. And if you pick just the X-Men, depending on which X-Men you pick, it may say ‘Classic X-Men.’ “
That is all on GameZone.

X-Men Legends II Hands-On Preview On IGN
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 1:41 PM
Category: X-Men: Legends

IGN took the time to do up a hands-on preview for X-Men Legends: Rise of the Apocalypse and here is shot of what thier article contains:
Who do you play as? From the X-Men camp, there is a classic mix of old and new heroes: Cyclops, Wolverine, Rogue, Nightcrawler, Jubilee, Ice-Man, Bishop, Storm, and perhaps Beast (who, to our knowledge, is at least an NPC). Magma won't be re-appearing from the previous game. From the Brotherhood are characters Magneto, Sabretooth, Toad (yes, he's playable), Juggernaut, and perhaps Mystique. Archangel appears as one of the first bosses you'll fight, and Pyro appears as an NPC who fights alongside you in your battle against...Abyss. Along with the ones mentioned, Angel, Emma Frost, Forge and Heather Hudson have been confirmed as NPCs.
Take a peek at that two page preview.

X-Men Legends II Preview On Gamehelper
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 1:24 PM
Category: X-Men: Legends

Gamehelper has a preview set up for X-Men Legends II.
X-Men Legends II: Rise of Apocalypse for the Xbox, just as with its predecessor, looks quite stunning. The graphics are a tad better, with seemingly more flamboyant special effects and lighting. The characters seem to have a bit more pop this time around, but nothing drastically different than the previous. The interface remains unchanged for the most part, so relearning how to play should not be an issue. The action takes place in a top-down, three quarter view perspective The controls are relatively simple, at least as far as navigation is concerned.
Check out that preview that is 2 pages of information.

Todd & Tim Talk Quake 4
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 9:04 AM
Category: Quake IV

Over on Next Genertaion they posted some highlights from an interview with Todd Hollenshead and Tim Willits, where they talk about the development of Quake 4.
"I still believe that Doom 3 is the best looking technology on the PC that you can buy, even a year after it shipped. If you start with a base like that you really don't run away from it, and the two games are very different. The fact that we like making atmospheric games doesn't mean that they can't differ in style. Quake 4 is very much an action romp, and it's in contract to what Doom 3 was."
Take a look at the two pages of interview.

 USS Frontier (Beta 11)
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 9:44 PM
Category: Voyager: Elite Force

Firebird & Cashman created a RPG level for Elite Force that is called USS Frontier (Beta 11).
This is an rpg map of an intrepid class starship called the USS Frontier. Some textures are good, some are bad, but this shouldn't be a problem since it will be retextured before the final release. It looks to be mostly a redesigned voyager, and as such shows in the textures as I mentioned.
That is all on Elite Force Files.

Dan Vondrak on X-Men Legends II
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 6:46 AM
Category: X-Men: Legends

IGN took the time to do an interview with Raven Software Project Lead Dan Vondrak on X-Men Legends II.
Sunfire has one of the coolest "boost" powers in the game. His Ion Shield forms a massive circle of fire and radiation around him damaging anyone who walks into it, and even ups his defense too.
Take a look at that preview.
