Kenn Hoekstra updated his personal web-space and this time he posted about the new Megadeth album that is entitled The System Has Failed and from what he says it's kick-ass cool. I also agree with what he has to say, except I liked thier Cryptic Writings album but Risk was just not very good IMHO. Visit Kenn's World!

 Ign.com's X-Men Legends Review
 Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 3:58 PM
Category: X-Men: Legends

Just noticed that IGN has a PS2 review for X-Men Legends and here is a quote:
If you're not big on the Xers, don't worry, as Legends does a superb job of introducing every little element of the X-Men and their history to the uninitiated through guided tours of Xavier's mansion and optional conversations with NPCs. If you want, you can learn details on more than 20 X-characters, the function of Xavier's Institute, Muir Island, and just about everything else X. If you know this stuff, it's easy to skip or can serve as a nice reminder of what's kept the X-Men in our conscious thoughts for nearly 40 years.
There's 5 whole pages of readable review so go check it out.

 X-Men Legends Review On MyGamer
 Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 12:10 PM
Category: X-Men: Legends

MyGamer has a review up for the Ps2 version of X-Men Legends. Here is a clippage from the review:
And, in a refreshing change of pace, the game play of X-men Legends rises to meet the storyline. Combat is quick, fun, and not too complicated with the button mashing. The majority of the play uses only two buttons to string together chains of melee attacks, although projectiles and mutant powers can be thrown in for variety.
Here is the page for that review.

  • 2nd: SOL ==> 6 pts, 4 rounds played: average -100
  • 3rd: OoM ==> 5 pts, 3 rounds played: average -58
  • 4th: StOnEd ==> 5 pts, 3 rounds played: average -111
  • 5th: §§ ==> 3 pts, 3 rounds played: average -5
  • 6th: [pOe] ==> 3 pts, 3 rounds played: average -31
  • 7th : ]C[ ==> 0 pts, 4 rounds played : no word from them since the beginning of the tourney, counted as a forfit everytime.
El.Fire says most of the clans still have a chance to win and with 3 rounds left to go the end of THF Tourney will be passionant for sure!! Check out The Heretic Fortress for more info. By the way I had to take the brackets off of HM's clan name because the site thought it was an HTML tag. :p

 Syndicate: Initiation
 Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 10:22 PM
Category: Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy

Syndicate: Initiation is a Single Player level that includes a bit of puzzle solving, according to the reviewer on Jedi Knight Files. The map is designed for Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy and here is a quote:
I was quite impressed with the production of this SP level. It was done really well ... not just the mapping, but the animations and the sequencing and stuff. This is not one of those levels where you just fight a bunch of spawned NPC's. This was quite well thought out. In fact, the whole level is mostly puzzles.
So Syndicate: Initiation is all set for checking out..

 Jossa's Jordaly1
 Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 10:00 PM
Category: Soldier of Fortune II: Double Helix

Jossa made this map for Soldier Of Fortune II and here is a description quote:
Anice medium sized map made up from the layout of 2 maps, Italy and Jordon, good combo too. The map supports elim, dm, inf, ctf game types and will host a max of 32 players, I tested the map in CTF mode only and found the map to have no backpacks? There are two available in secret places, you will need to find them. So staying alive here could be hard
. That's all on SoFFiles.com and I'm off to find some sustenance.

 More Quake IV Information
 Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 8:29 PM
Category: Quake IV

I posted the other day that PC Gamer will have a big feature on Quake IV. Like I said before, you can expect to get your gaming paws on the Quake IV issue on September 21st. That's if you buy it off the shelves. However if your a subscriber, then you may already have a copy. So thanks to a visit to Shack News we now know a few highlights about the game which are as follows:
  • Quake 4 is a direct sequel to Quake 2, takes place just hours after the event of that game.
  • During most of the game, you are fighting with other marines, however there will be solo missions.
  • Some missions take place inside, others outside. You'll get to use vehicles at times.
  • You're part of a military campaign attacking the Strogg homeworld.
  • Returning weapons so far: blaster, machine gun, nailgun, shotgun.
  • Multiplayer: "The multiplayer experience is more akin to Quake III: Arena", no vehicles.
  • "With Doom 3 it was horror. With Quake IV, it's war."
So there you have all we can tell you so far. Once the issue of PC Gamer comes along, I hope Raven will release some info on the net. Also note that UK PC Zone magazine also has a preview, so keep your eyes peeled for those mags.

 FedDrydock (2.0)
 Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 9:37 PM
Category: Voyager: Elite Force

I just spotted on Elite Force Files a CTF map by Alexraptor for Star Trek Voyager: Elite Force that is named FedDrydock (2.0).
Alexraptor has further expanded on his FedDrydock map with some pretty big changes.The most noticeable change would have to be the replacement of the docked ship to a Federation one (USS Reliant, Miranda class). The setup of this map is a docked Fed ship being attacked by a Klingon Bird of Prey.
Check out that FedDrydock (2.0) map.

 Reptile Model For Jedi Academy
 Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 9:09 PM
Category: Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy

TpS_sithrouge did up this reptile model for Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy and it does look pretty neat from the available screenshot (yeah there's only one shot).
What is a first is that this is the first one I've seen that looks perfectly made. There's no cracks between the arms or anything, and the posture of this looks awesome. The title is kind of misleading, it IS a reptile but looks like one of those alien models from Timesplitters, you know, like a gekko head on an creepy body. But it works and it looks good.
Check that model out right here.

 HeXen II Lives!
 Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 6:00 PM
Category: Hosted Site

Just a few hours ago I reinstalled HeXen II and cracked open some of the unfinished single player maps I worked on ages ago. Thats why I started to poke around the internet today looking for some HeXen II stuff. So I jumped on Razumen's RavenHurst site to look at his screenshots. So that's when I notice that Razumen had updated around the time that Kenn Hoekstra left Raven Software back in late June. Well I certainly didn't know he updated his site and it was never announced here so I'm gonna do it now. I'm in a HeXen II mood! Here is a quote:
I'm still hard at work on Ravenhurst - spare time willing. The map count right now has shot up from 27 to around a crazy 46 so I've been busy getting the first couple of maps to an actual playable state with monsters and everything. So far it's been going pretty good, there's a indescribable feeling to seeing all the work you put into a map come together at the end. Right now I'm designing the maps to be hard to beat, but not impossible of course.
So this is good news! It's a couple months old but hey, thats the way it goes... just check out RavenHurst and if you really want to, you can bug him to finsih it! Also if you don't know this, RavenHurst is a single player add-on for Hexen II Portal of Praveus. Now I'll go and work on one of my HeXen II maps (Temple Of The Jaguar)....cya!

When not in the mansion you’ll find yourself taking part in objective-based missions with up to three other X-Men. While Alison, or if you prefer her alter ego Magma, isn’t available for quite awhile as a party member, you do get quite a selection of X-Men early on the in the game including Wolverine, Iceman, Jean Grey, Storm, Cyclops, Nightcrawler, and Colossus. As you play through the game you’ll run into more X-Men, who will then be added to your queue of playable characters. In all there will be 15 mutants to play as and each character has his or her own unique set of abilities and powers.

 X-Men Legends Preview

gamespy.com has a preview for X-Men Legends on thier site. Here is a snap from the bigger shot:
Veteran gamers will have no problem learning X-Men Legends' basic combat and combo system. Novices will find numerous "help points" that make picking up the game a snap. Since this game sports a mainstream license, the gameplay is appropriately easy to pick up. That doesn't mean there isn't anything for experienced players to enjoy; hardcore gamers will enjoy leveling up each character and customizing each mutant's powers.
Well you'll want to read the full preview Also note that X-Men Legends is due out later this month..

 The Hellchick Skin
 Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 8:46 PM
Category: Voyager: Elite Force

Just noticed that Elite Force Files has a Hellchick skin for Star Trek Voyager: Elite Force. Here is the deal on the skin taken from the readme file:
The story of where this model came from and how it ended up in its present state is long and moving. Sadly, I only took place in the last part of the story, so I only know the ending. What I do know is that Paul Steed modeled this character as a tribute to Caryn 'Hellchick' Law, Action Producer at Gamespy (and much, much more). As I understand it, somewhere between Ken Scott skinning the model and it being released, Paul left id. It sat on the shelf for a while before Ken Scott passed it on to Hellchick so that she could find a way to have it finished. After a few more months on the shelf, I emailed her and asked permission to finish the model. She said yes, and now, many months later, it is released.
Get that Hellchick skin!
