Absynthe made a CTF level for Elite Force that is called CTF DX 01. - passing through the energy beam in the middle causes damage. Sometimes alot, sometimes a little. What is certain, is that if you press any movement key while flying through the beam you are more likely to suffer a greater amount of damage than if you don't. That is all on Elite Force Files.

several sided sid released a Jedi Academy FFA map that's called Mos Espa Outskirts v2 and here is a bit of what the reviewer had to say. And I can safely say, that if you loved the first version, you will love this. Now, there’s not really any DRASTIC changes, but there’s been quite a bit of polishing done. The falcon has been given a good going over, and looks much nicer inside now than it did in the previous version. There’s also been some new, more nicer textures used, some of which were supplied by Sssid’s friend SathiroN. There have also been a few more tweaks, not all of which are visible to the player, but increase the overall build quality of the map. That is all on Jedi Knight Files.

If your into skins for Jedi Academy, then maybe this Darth Savet skin will be of interest. Now on to the bonuses: a saber hilt and custom sounds. Let's start with the sounds. The author did them himself. I know what you're thinking, but unlike most 'custom made' sounds, these are pretty well done. They don't sound strained, and they don't sound like he was trying to hide in a corner and not be heard while he was doing them. They also fit the skin pretty well. Take a look at Darth Savet that is on Jedi Knight Files.

Tim Willits Interview

Way over on Worthplaying they geared up an interview with Tim Willits of id Software and here is a piece of that:TW: Quake 2 was pretty big, as I made most of the maps. It was a hard project. Quake 4 is more complex, you can do more in every level. There is more stuff to search around for. So, getting thru the maps will take much longer. Quake 4 is shorter than Doom 3, and I feel Doom 3 was a little too long. This is why the X-Box version is shorter than the PC version. We trimmed it up a bit, and it actually turned out to be a better game. So Quake 4 is probably the same length as Quake 2, but the levels are more difficult now. Go read that Quake 4 Interview with Tim Willits.

Quake 4 Q&A Session On Global Gaming

Over on the Global Gaming League they posted up a QuakeCon Q&A recon session over Quake 4 and here is a taste: Lastly is Teleport Firing. All I can say is... it's about time. This is the one feature which will absolutely change the way that these games are played. In Quake 3, most teleporters were used in a defensive fashion. One player would go through, and the chasing player would realize if he/she went through they could be greeted by a pair of rockets. In Quake 4, the chaser can now send rockets through the teleporter to try to hit the one running. On the defensive side, the player running can exit the teleporter and send rockets back through to hit the one chasing him. I believe this will add a new element of strategy to the already strat heavy 1v1 matches. I look forward to seeing its usage in large competitions. So now you can fire rockets through teleporters in DM.... I remember playing Quake 2 and wishing I could do that. Anyhow thanks to Phoebus for spotting the article that you can read right here.

There is a preview out of QuakeCon over on Worthplaying for Quake 4 where they got some hands-on recon on the game:We had to rely on our previous knowledge of Doom 3 to predict what it would be like. All predictions, for me at least, went out the window when I got my first hands-on glimpse. Behind closed doors, I bared witness to what can only be termed the “Stroggification of Matthew Kane”. You, playing the role of a Marine Corporal, are captured by the Strogg and strapped down to an assembly line. You are sliced and diced, and a “loyalty chip” is implanted in your head. In a matter of minutes, you are upgraded with cyborg parts that would make The Borg green with envy. Take a look at that Quake 4 Preview.

Quake 4 Better Than Doom 3

An small article over on Igniq.com reports that CEO of id Software, Todd Hollenshead says that he figures Quake 4 will be better than Doom 3.On closer inspection I see that they're talking about an article on Gamespot and here is a quote from that jobby: Said the id Software executive, "I really feel that Quake 4's going to be a better game than Doom 3 was" thanks to the way the new game will incorporate varied gameplay, along with technical advancements like drivable in-game vehicles and improved artificial intelligence you'll see from the game's enemies, as well as from your allies. As you may remember, in Quake 4, you'll play as a human soldier who is part of a military strike team that's taking on the merciless Strogg aliens on their home planet. Over the course of the game you'll be captured by the aliens and subjected to the brutal process by which the aliens grow their armies: grafting metallic limbs and alien computer systems into their bodies to turn them into subservient slaves. Here is the link to the Gamespot article.

He gives you a brief outline of the situation and suggests that you should try to rendezvous with the other marines who are scattered around the area. Moving past him, you encounter Medic Anderson. He heals the wounds you received in the crash and sends you on your way to meet Private Webb waiting outside the entrance to a massive Strogg installation. With a full health bar, a pistol and a new friend, you'll head into the installation and take the fight directly to the enemy. Have a look at that Quake 4 preview which is 2 pages of info.

1UP.com posted a preview for Quake 4 and here is a shot of what they say about the game:When you are blasting around on foot, though, you'll notice a distinctly different feel from Doom 3. The best way to look at the experience is where Doom 3 is like the original Alien film, Quake IV channels James Cameron's Aliens -- even down to the opening cut-scene where a landing craft full of space marines touches down on the planet's surface. Watch out, they might ambush you when you arrive at their flag! To activate a train, walk inside it and touch the left or right button at the wall. The train will wait 10 seconds at the destination platform and then return automatically. Check out that Trainspotting CTF map that is on Soffiles.

Darth NormaN released a Free For All level by the name of Arevass for Jedi Academy and here is a bit of what the reviewer had to say about it:There’s excellent use of lighting and textures in this map (the sky looks beautiful), and some excellent shaders too. Such as the banner (originally a texture from the Korriban texture set) which looks like its moving gently in the wind. Also, the rainbow type things in the map, like the one that is in the waterfall (just like they are in real life) are something I’ve never seen in a map before, so when I saw them, it totally blew me away.
