Gamespot has an Quake 4 Designer Diary posted up where Bob Love and Eric Biessman of Raven Software talk about the marines that make up Rhino Squad. The overriding goal of creating Rhino squad was that each member has a distinctive voice that can be easily identified over the radio. We played with a bunch of different accents, and when we wound up with our final mix, and the team's makeup was decided, it was fairly easy to choose names. -- Eric Biessman, lead designer. Get some Quake 4 Recon out of that Quake 4 Designer Diary. Now I feel like cranking on some Quake 2 while waiting for Quake 4.......

Movie Saber Clash Effects Mod

Over on Jedi Knight Files theres a Movie Saber Clash effects Mod that makes the sabre fights look more like the films. It makes any hit to the body look like a saber clash. Overall it gives the effect of a more realistic saber fight because it doesn't look like you are actually hitting anyone, making it perfect for movie making. It also makes the saber fights feel faster paced and exhilarating.I can only really see two downsides to this mod, firstly it would give you a bit of a disadvantage in duels, and normally you can tell if you got a good hit in or not. Also you still get the shield effect which kinda ruins the feel of it. Maybe that could be changed in version 2 *hint* Take a look at that Movie Saber Clash effects Mod for Jedi Academy.

In one of the rooms was a crashed Tie Fighter, I’m not sure how its supposed to have got there, but it does look kinda cool in a wa Check out DS Temple Duel.

It's time to take anouther trip over to Jedi Knight Files to check out a CTF level for Jedi Academy. The map in question is Coruscant Streets II and the reviewer has this to say about it:The level itself is very solidly built, with a sturdy framerate in every part of the map, for me between 60-65FPS Two Thumbs Up! This does mean there's not too much exquisite detailing or mind-blowing effects but it's still a fairly impressive design. The inspiration from the original map was apparent when you play this and the original side by side, but there's enough difference to keep you playing. The lifts in particular, I thought were very well made, as were the flag areas, however there's this odd blue misty fog throughout the level which looked just a little out of place, not only in the red base, but other areas, because the map is in an enclosed city with some endless holes. It just didn't seem particularly fitting. There was also this kinda annoying/creepy sound I kept hearing when walking around the bases, and I couldn't figure out what it was or where it was coming from... wierd. Check out Coruscant Streets II.

Over on Jedi Knight Files they have Pyro's Saber Mod as a featured mod which adds trails to the lightsabres in Jedi Academy. What I like best is the author didn't go over the top. The trails look very nice for each saber, and they're not solid colors. He's mixed in a little orange here and there, as well as some other complimenting colors for each saber color. The sword trail is also nice, because it is subdued and not a big bright flame. Go visit Pyro's Saber Mod.

IGN Takes An Updated Look At X-Men Legends II

Category: X-Men: Legends |
Over on IGN they have an updated look at X-Men Legends II: Rise of Apocalypse and here is a snip from the bigger jobby:For those who don't know, or simply don't remember, Raven designed Legends as an action-RPG series with a focus on combat and co-op play. In Legends II, much of what made the first game fun to play remains intact. And since most of the elements in the first Legends worked so well, it's really no surprise that Legends II looks and plays very much like its predecessor. The focus is still co-op battles through a variety of well-known locales set in the X-Men universe. But that doesn't mean Legends II is a cloned version of its older brother with a new pair of jeans. Check out the X-Men Legends II: Rise of Apocalypse preview that's two pages long.

Over on Jedi Knight Files there's a Jedi Outcast level called Tumba that's designed by INJOI Incast and made for Duel gameplay. The author did a good job texturing this map with few if any errors in aligning textures or z-fighting. For a crypt, this map is alittle to well lit for my tastes, but this is a minor thing. This map, while not as fancy as others, still allows for interesting dueling, while creating a nice atmosphere. If you have a duel server, or just feel like dling a map to check out, this one would be a good choice. That's all waiting for download on Jedi Knight Files.

Sora Bulq V2 Skin

Expert released Sora Bulq V2 which is a skin of the Star Wars character. This is the second version of my Sora Bulq skin. Sora Bulq was a Weequay Jedi who fought in the Clone Wars. He was remembered as one of the greatest lightsaber duelists the order had ever known, having aided Master Windu in perfecting Vaapad (the seven forms of lightsaber combat). However, he had not mastered the form; rather it had mastered him, as he fell to the dark side. He would later fight his old friend and mentor, Jedi Master Mace Windu, but was nearly killed and managed to escape Windu. Later in the Clone Wars, Sora Bulq led a Morkugai army against Jedi Master Oppo Rancisis and managed to strike him down. Sora was eventually cut down by four Jedi members of Rancisis' task force. Check out that Sora Bulq V2 skin that's on Jedi Knight Files.

!SoS! Underground is a Jedi Academy level designed for Free For All by Darth Algar and uploaded to Jedi Knight Files. The reviewer sayeth:Ah, I hear you cry, "It's a nasty old clan map." No so - there is one little section with a picture of the clan and a 'coming soon' picture which spoils that room, but aside from that you really wouldn't realise this is a clan map, and besides it's so well made I would have advised you to try it even if it had been plastered with clan logos. gingerguy released a Episode III Clones skin pack for Jedi Academy and here is a bit of what the reviewer had to say about it:The more I looked at these skins the more I saw the subtle differences that made them good, such as the scortch marks on the armor and the smudges. Considering these are all just reskins of the Stormtrooper model, they're really not too bad. There's a normal white version (looks much like the normal stormtrooper, but with a modified helmet and some 'grunge'), a green "elite" version, an orange version, and blue and red versions. That's all on Jedi Knight Files.

Mace Windu: Party Crasher

Category: Jedi Knight 2: Jedi Outcast |
There's a single player, Jedi Outcast level over on Jedi Knight Files that is called Mace Windu: Party Crasher by designer Anthony Piggott. Here is a bit of what the reviewer had to say about it all:Anyways, this map is a short single-player campaign which is about one of Mace Windu's away missions, similar to the way Jaden gets them in JK3. He's been sent to investigate some odd 'black hand' group (I think that was the name) and ends up getting into bar fights, club fights, and finishes with the final duel against the leader of the group. The level design itself was fairly good, however the lighting was very dark and the overall architecture wasn't fantastic. The puzzles weren't that difficult, and I would have preferred a few more of them. However, the cutscenes were very well scripted and the voice-acting, for lack of a better word, was nice. Check out that Mace Windu: Party Crasher level.

Now this is a cool looking map. Peril In The Core is a Duel level made by Patrick Haslow for Jedi Academy. Here is a piece of what the reviewer had to say avout it:The shaders and effects used for the most part are fantastic - loving that circular forcefield with the rotating rings and the jump pads, but hating those annoying robots which always shoot at you. Grrrr. The map is kind of divided into two sections, the bit above the forcefield and the bit below. If you're above and fall, you're safe, but if you're below you're likely to fall to a nasty doom, however there are ways out, such as the gusts of air which pull you up the pipes and the moving platforms. Go take a look and perhaps download Peril In The Core that's on Jedi Knight Files.

Jawa made Map-Review's Academy for FFA play in Jedi Academy. Here is part of what the reviewer had to say about it all:The map itself seems to me to be fairly standard for an FFA, it reminds me a little of the default maps, which although good, are a bit boring. (in my opinion) As I said, theres four sections, which mostly resemble dueling areas. One is in a grassty courtyard with a statue in the middle, theres one with a glass floor, and there's also a small room filled with fire and , I think, ammo crates. That's all on Jedi Knight Files it is.
