 Movie Academy
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 2:07 PM
Category: Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy

Jedi Knight Files has a new Sith-J-Cull map that is called Movie Academy.
This is a map that serves as an FFA map and it's actually pretty decent just like that. I don't like the way the weapons were done here and I feel it should be used as a saber only map, but that's just me. But the heart of this map is downstairs. It's a theater. It has couches and a huge movie theater screen with the curtains and everything. Press the button on the right and the curtains part. Press the button on the left and you can watch the Episode III trailer.
Well it looks pretty neat from the screenies on the site. Go have a Free For All in the Movie Academy.

 Nina: Undiscovered Secret
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 10:49 PM
Category: Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy

Over on Jedi Knight Files there's a single player mod called Nina: Undiscovered Secret. Here is a clip from what the reviewer had to say about it all:
Undiscovered Secret could've been one of those amazing SP mods if it had been completed. I'm not saying that there is no ending - I'm sure there probably is. I just didn't play that far into the game. I enjoyed what I did explore. The mod has some combat here and there, but more than anything there are little puzzles that you need to solve to complete your objective. It's a tad predictable, but satisfying because it's not too hard.
Check out that Nina: Undiscovered Secret mod that's for Jedi Academy.

The Solar Death Ray & Kenn's Wayside
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 9:04 PM
Category: General

Now for something completely different thanks to Kenn Hoekstra pointing it out on his site. Is it a new Jedi saber? A Soldier of Fortune level made of cheese? Some spiffy Elite Force lingerie or a Quake IV Strogg cook book? Noooo... it's a Solar Death Ray! Crazy stuff!
I built the first Solar Death Ray because I like designing and building things, I thought it would be fun to have, and I wanted to see if I could. It was fun to design and build, and I did have a lot of fun bringing it to parties and barbeques.
Remember kids, don't try this at home. Also Kenn posted that his job search continues and so does work on his screenplay 'Wayside' and he says the killer in the story is just about to embark on his killin spree. All this stuff can be checked out on Kenn's World.

The mod is a TC for Jedi Academy that's based on the Penny Arcade comic. Anyhow have a look at that Cardboard Tube Showdown Mod.

 The Crusher MP5 Skin
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 7:36 PM
Category: Soldier of Fortune II: Double Helix

As soon as I saw the title The Crusher over on Soffiles I thought of Doom and figured somebody did a take of the Doom 2 level in Soldier Of Fortune II but I was wrong. The Crusher this time around is a nice looking weapon skin for a MP5 that's designed by KoRvEn. Check it out.

I spotted a Jedi Academy, Duel level by LDC that's called Canyon Duel on Lucas Files. The map looks like it might be a good place for a duel on the platform in the one available screenshot. So check out that Canyon Duel level if your into that kinda thing.

 Kenn Speaks Up About Drinking
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 10:34 PM
Category: General

Sometimes I wander around a crapload of sites looking for some news and finding a bunch of... whatever. It can be boring as hell. What am I getting at? I guess I jumped on Kenn's World expecting an update on some nifty film or something that Kenn has seen recently, but was surprised to see otherwise. Kenn Hoekstra speaks about quitting drinking. I sure hope he's able to do what he's set out to acomplish. Luckily, nobody in my family has had a drinking problem... so far. I like an occasional beer myself and even go so far as to make the stuff from kits but it sure must be major suckage to get addicted to booze. I'm sure quitting is bloody hard, so I wish Kenn all the luck with that. Hopefully he'll break the bottle and finish that screenplay all in one.

Capture Some Flags On Fusion 2
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 9:36 PM
Category: Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy

Cuko made this CTF map called Fusion 2 that looks pretty spiffy from the screenshots.
This is a pretty nice CTF map, made especially atmospheric by the ambient wind sounds and cool lighting in the bases (especially the red one) and in conjunction with the ominous architecture - possibly Doom3 inspired, it makes for a pretty fun playing arena.
It has new textures and bot support so check out Fusion 2 for Jedi Academy thanks to Jedi Knight Files.

 Jedi vs. Predator Model
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 8:24 PM
Category: Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy

Zenth did up this Predator model for Jedi Academy that has new sounds, bot support and team support. The model looks pretty cool and the download is a media file that has a demo of the skin in action plus it contains the skin itself, of course. You can check out Jedi vs. Predator thanks to Jedi Knight Files.

 Tie Hunter
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 11:02 PM
Category: Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy

Over on Jedi Knight Files minilogoguy has uploaded a rather cool model of a Tie Hunter:
First of all, it looks very pretty, the blue and black looks great and it shiney and detail is awesome. It is able to spin using the strafe keys, thats awesome too, it flys nicely and generally a great piece of modeling and skinning work.
Check out the three available screens of the Tie Hunter that's designed for Jedi Academy and get the download while your at it.

Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 8:22 PM
Category: Voyager: Elite Force

tman77 recently updated his Pinball map for Elite Force to version 1.1 that fixes the following:
  • Fixed the over brightness of some textures due to my nOOBness and my dying monitor.
  • Moved platforms a little closer to center of map so bots and players can more easily reach the large platforms.
  • Removed a couple of the slick surfaces (table glass and floating platforms).
  • Tweaked/added a few brushes,textures and entities.
So check out CTF EFPinball v1.1 that's on Elite Force Files.

Also Kenn is 23 pages into a new horror screenplay and lets hope he can finish that next month like he plans. Hit Kenn's World!

 Get Vertigo In FFA?
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 7:18 PM
Category: Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy

Cuko created a Free For All level called Vertigo and here is some info about the map from the desription:
Congested city atmosphere. The original concept of map is the ability to toggle on/off splash damage of weapons at a console. This means that only direct hits will inflict damage on bots or players while switch is in blue position.
So check out that Jedi Academy, Vertigo level on Lucas Files.

 Battle Streeds
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 10:21 PM
Category: Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy

Over on Jedi Knight Files they have an interesting vehile mod ready for download that's called Battle Streeds which can only be described as armored, alien horses or something similar.
Firstly, the skinning is very crisp and they look great, although theres some texture distortion around the underside and other various places, but I guess you'll always get that on models. This pack corresponds with the HypoStreeds pack, except these guys are armoured, and battle ready - as the name suggests.
Take a look at those Battle Streeds.

 Paracyte
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 9:44 PM
Category: Voyager: Elite Force

Here I am again. It's snowing outside and my ISP / internet connection is acting like all the squirrels escaped from out of the big power generating wheel somehow... Anyways while I fight to get pages to load and get news posted you can head on over to Elite Force Files and check out Paracyte, which is a very cool looking Space Station map that has a lot of detail. The level is made for holomatch, team holomatch, tournament and team gems. It also requires the Elite Force 1.3 Update mod of which I mentioned previous to this post. I hope my ISP gets the squirrels back into the wheel tomorrow. :p

Unofficial Elite Force 1.3 Update Mod
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 9:42 PM
Category: Voyager: Elite Force

Grand Nagus put together an unofficial Elite Force 1.3 Update mod that adds a lot of content to the game for players and mappers.
There are many new features added to the game that should make future maps more fun and challenging to play. New powerups and pickups will add new strategies to the game, and new game features will let modders create more immersive maps for you to play! The update mod is backwards compatible with older Elite Force maps, so you can still play all of your favorite maps.

 Map Review Contest 2: P1
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 10:08 PM
Category: Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy

Kastraelie posted over on map-review.com that they started up anouther Jedi Academy editing contest in which participants are to do thier best at recreating a scene provided in a screenshot.
A note from wedge: This is the first in our new series of contests, or 'Challenges.' These will consist of a smaller and more directed task than producing a full-fledged map. They are heavily community-based in judging and so should go by pretty quickly--allowing us to have more Challenges to satiate your competitive mapping appetites!
If your interested you can sign up right here.

Kiss, Quiznos Rats & Pizza Commercials...
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 7:48 PM
Category: General

Hey I missed the appearance of Kiss on the Ellen Degeneres show when they were on last week but I did see it today when they showed some of what Kiss did for 10 year old David Dingman-Grover. I always like those guys and I was impressed and so was Kenn Hoekstra. If you want to read what Kenn had to say about that plus some other stuff about Domino's pizza commercials, the suckage of the Quiznos road-kill mascots... (ok that's what I called them ugly 'things' they used to have in thier commercials) then put a hit on Kenn's World.

 Latest Bomb Diffusion Build
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 9:46 PM
Category: Voyager: Elite Force

Elite Force Files has the latest Bomb Diffusion mod. Here's the low-down on this mod from the description:
Bomb diffusion is a very cool mod, it is obvious that the bomb needs to be disabled before it explodes, failure to do so will result in your base being blown up with everyone in it. The bomb is placed in the center of the map, which makes it fair for both teams. Grab the bomb, run towards the enemy base, destroy any resistance, place the bomb and get away while you still can - you only have seconds before the bomb explodes. Shooting the carrier of the bomb will result in the bomb being dropped on the ground for everyone to pick up. The flag has been replaced by a platform on which you need to place the bomb.
Note that Bomb Diffusion will work on any Elite Force, CTF map.

 Can You Escape: Yavin IV?
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 10:46 PM
Category: Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy

Well this certainly sounds interesting. Darrow Linder released a Single Player mod called Escape: Yavin IV for Jedi Academy and from what the reviewer says... tis cool:
This is a massive new SP game. There are several levels, lots of models, new cutscenes, animations, etc. All of this is new and it's all done quite well. It was a bit of a challenge for me and I didn't even come close to finishing it (mostly because of a time restraint). If you've been bored with the SP game from Jedi Academy, you might want to check out Escape: Yavin IV.
I'm going to download this myself and give it a shot. Afterall I'm a SP kind of gamer. Get that Escape: Yavin IV jobby off of Jedi Knight Files.

 Alexraptor's SubPen
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 10:27 PM
Category: Voyager: Elite Force

Over on Elite Force Files I noticed that Alexraptor released a map called SubPen. Here is a snip of what the reviewer had to say:
Alexraptor provides us once again with a beautiful map. This map takes you right into a underground bay where a submarine is docked and ready for resupplying with new weapons and crates. Around the map is a walkway though you can't strafe jump accross it since the ceiling is very low.
Check out that SubPen level that's designed for Elite Force Deathmatch.

Go to the Sin Villa and shoot somebody.

 Bloodmine Shaft
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 11:08 PM
Category: Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy

Sometimes the levels with the cool names are the ones that suck the dogs dinner. Not the case this time around with the level called Bloodmine Shaft that's designed for Jedi Academy. At least it looks cool from the various screenshots. Anyhow here's a quote:
First and foremost, this is a lovely map. It really is very pretty. And like most beautiful things, it's also complicated. I'm not even sure I found a flag base. And I spent at least 15 minutes exploring this map. Granted, I was playing in FFA mode, but flag bases are usually obvious. I thought I found a base approximately 9 times, but I was probably wrong.
Check out that Bloodmine Shaft level that's made for CTF and is waiting for download off of Jedi Knight Files.

 NT Bespin
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 10:22 PM
Category: Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy

Hello again. There's a cool looking Free For All map on Jedi Knight Files designed by Placid that's called NT Bespin. Here is some of what the reviewer had to say about it:
Do you want more proof that Bespin was the most popular map for the JK series? Well, here ya go. Another map based on the often-played Bespin Streets. So I explored the map and was thinking, not only is this really familiar, it doesn't feel that different. There are some new lights here and there, and there are a few areas that have been expanded. Also, I noticed that everything seems a bit smaller in scale. But in some places, things are more spread out. Much more friendly to short people.
Have a look at that NT Bespin map and perhaps download that jobby.
