 Galang Tourney Level
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 1:56 PM
Category: Quake IV

Lukin released a Quake 4 Tourney level that's called Galang.
Small, tourney map for fast and furious duels.I focused on gameplay, item balance, etc. The look was not so much important to me so the map isn't stunning in terms of visuals. But it is good enoughIMHO. Looks almost like Raven/Id levels, but (hopefully) plays a lot better. Also, it has got lower system requirements.
I think it ooks pretty nice from the six available screenshots. That is all on Quake 4 Files.

 Duel Firstgo
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 9:19 PM
Category: Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy

pk_hunter released a Jedi Academy, duel map that is called Duel Firstgo. Here is a bit of what the reviewer had to say about it:
This level kinda reminded me of the Doom3 environment, not necessairily due to exceptional brushwork, but more because of the layout and texture set. I can't put my finger on it, but I do draw a link between this and doom3 when I play it. Maybe it's the lighting wink (That's a compliment as Doom3's lighting was superb Two Thumbs Up! ) That's not to say it doesn't have flaws though.
That is all on Jedi Knight Files.

Korax Working On HeXen II Engine v1.13
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 3:48 PM
Category: Hexen II

Korax of NewHeXen sent in the news and also posted this thread with the information that he's working on the whole set of quake engines (Quake I, Hexen II and Quake II, maybe even Quake III).
What am I on all about? Well, Im talking "PURE" versions of all the engines.Basically the last official version of Quake I is v1.09, Ive just completed the unofficial Quake I v1.10 which doesnt change the game, it just fixes all the bugs the engine had, and makes it cool again to play. The same treatment awaits Hexen II with the release of Hexen II v1.13 !!
For more info on what he's doing, hit this thread.

 Broken Quake 4 Demo
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 1:34 PM
Category: Quake IV

Oh well. I was going to post about the Quake 4 demo release but apparently it was released prematurely and is an untested, multiplay broken dealie. So thanks to Blues News for reporting the bad demo. So anybody wanting the demo should wait until next week when they release the final version. So if you do happen upon the recent demo, don't bother downgrabbing it unless your desperate or somethin'.

Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 2:17 PM
Category: Soldier of Fortune II: Double Helix

(I.C.E) AcE released a multiplayer, Soldier Of Fortune 2 map that is called Return To Dust (Final).
Return to Dust is a remake of the popular Dust maps, in this version (I.C.E) AcE has made several alterations to the original. You now have a number of ways to get to the enemies base instead of the 2 routes you had before, the flags now have a new position, added are some vehicles and trees, the map is also a little larger than the original, overall a good map to have some fun on.
That is all on Soffiles.

 CVG Reviews Quake 4
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 7:26 PM
Category: Quake IV

Computer and Video Games did up a Quake 4 Review. Lets take a look at some of it:
Straight from the off, you're submerged into a world that genuinely looks and sounds like a warzone. Incessant, panicked radio chatter from other strike teams bursts through your headphones, and new orders filter down from command HQ as you scythe your way through wave after wave of pug-ugly nasties.
That is all on Computer and Video Games.

 Quake 4 Review On Gameplanet
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 10:53 AM
Category: Quake IV

Gameplanet has posted up thier review on Raven's Quake 4.
The game itself is quite standard. As you progress through each area, you're expected to reach the next objective which is communicated to you by other squad members or via intercom radio. Some of the more exciting stuff happens when the Strogg seem to materialise out of the walls, catching you off guard. Don't let them get too close, it's definitely easier spreading their guts across the room from a distance.
So here is anouther Quake 4 Review for everybody to check out.

 Game Over On Quake 4
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 7:46 AM
Category: Quake IV

Game Over has thier idea of a Quake 4 Review posted for everyone to read and here is a shot:
One of the other hiccups of the game is that the single player missions feel extremely linear, which doesn't really match the global sense of down and out warfare that the game presents. In some ways, it feels more "Doom"-ified than this widespread Full Metal Jacket style war, just without the emails and memos.
Take a look at the rest of that Quake 4 Review.

X-Men Legends II Review For PS2
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 1:37 PM
Category: X-Men: Legends

They have a X-Men Legends II Review on 3D Avenue that is for the PS2 version of the game. Lets take a peek at some of thier words on the subject:
Activision's X-Men Legends II: Rise of Apocalypse is undoubtedly a game that fits into the "yet another sequel" category, but thankfully it provides a greatly improved gaming experience to justify its existence. Yes, the roster's been updated -- and considerably increased -- and yes, it doesn't change much about the core mechanics of last year's Dark Alliance-esque X-Men Legends game. To use an incredibly over-used journalistic cliché, if you liked last year's game, you'll like this one, and if you didn't, you won't.

X-Men Legends II Review On Firing Squad
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 5:02 PM
Category: X-Men: Legends

Over on the Firing Squad they posted thier X-Men Legends II: Rise Of Apocalypse Review.
What never quite goes away is the need to manage the inventory. Later on, with the level gains being spaced out to more decent intervals, the player’s primary reason for fiddling with the menus is to equip new items and sell or drop the rest. The game AI is really not that great at equipping your characters, it seems rather random actually. To be fair, the effectiveness of most items is limited relative to the core strength of the character, but there are exceptions.

 WarCry Reviews Quake 4
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 1:24 PM
Category: Quake IV

WarCry geared up a Quake 4 Review and here is a bit of what they had to say about it:
The opening cinematic is short, but sweetly choreographed, and suitably sets the stage for a Starship Trooper-esque invasion. Huge jumpships enter Stroggos orbit and birth dozens of dropships, which fall toward the atmosphere amidst oncoming bolts of azure plasma and explosive flak.
Take a look at that Quake 4 Review.

 Trusted Quake 4 Review
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 1:48 PM
Category: Quake IV

This one is from October but I didn't spot it before. Anyways Trusted Reviews did up a Quake 4 Review and have this to say:
Let’s make no bones about it, this engine produces the most stunning indoor environments and lighting effects around, and lends itself to the most detailed horrific and macabre creatures you could hope for. The Strogg were always a deeply unpleasant bunch, and they’ve only become more so with their new makeover: all the torn flesh, grotesque techno implanting and ghastly rending and tearing implements looks even less wholesome this time around. Admittedly, their taste in interior design has not improved much (brown industrial is still THE look on Planet Strogg) but when the level designers really put their imaginations to work there’s some beautiful alien weirdness on display here.
Check on the rest of that Quake 4 Review.

 The Ashton Quake 4 mini-Tweakorama
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 2:11 PM
Category: Quake IV

Ashton Mills posted his Quake 4 mini-Tweakorama over on Atomic that explains how to tweak the framerate in the game.
I don't know about you, but I found the 60fps internal limit a pain in the ass. I know '60 fps should be enough for everyone' but the game still visibly 'stutters' even with overclocked 7800GTX loving.
That is all on Atomic.

 Equibus Station Review
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 8:51 PM
Category: Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy

Over on Map Review Shadriss reviewed Equibus Station which was constructed for the 2005 Map-Review Geometry Challenge.
This map was obviously designed for players using higher end force settings... IE people with FOrce Jump 3. Those who choose to play this map without the Force, or with lower settings, will have little to no chance of getting to the higher venues... which means you are essentially stuck on the ground floor. There is a lot of room down there, but you end up at a disadvantage against foes on higher terrain... especially once the ammo runs out.
That's all on map-review.com.

 Kamchatka Mountain Retreat (Fixed)
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 10:12 PM
Category: Soldier of Fortune II: Double Helix

quasar22 released a multiplayer, Soldier Of Fortune 2 map that is called Kamchatka Mountain Retreat (Fixed).
Kamchatka Mountain Retreat, a very nice map and big! The layout is perfect for all those sniperlovers out here (and that are alot) but if you have enough men you can play this map with other guns too! Oh, and I love the new sky texture.
That is all on Soffiles.

X-Men Legends II Review On Armchair Empire
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 1:02 PM
Category: X-Men: Legends

The Armchair Empire geared up a X-Men Legends II: Rise of Apocalypse Review and here is a shot from what they have to say about it:
So great is the threat that Magneto sees only one solution: team-up (temporarily) with the X-Men. This simply simple addition makes for some very engrossing gameplay, particularly for X-Men junkies that have always wanted to create their own mutant team-up.
That is all on the The Armchair Empire.

 Gamespy Reviewed Quake 4
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 2:21 PM
Category: Quake IV

I missed this one before but anyhow Gamespy did up thier version of a Quake 4 Review.
The early levels feature Kane regrouping with his Rhino Squad and fighting through various Strogg installations in an effort to disable their communications network and infrastructure. The gameplay is as generic as it gets, keeping you on a tight script and leading you by the nose from one objective to the next: most of the action takes place indoors, running down corridors and shooting whatever Strogg happen to show up.
Go read that three page Quake 4 Review.

 Quake 4 Review On StrategyZone
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 1:44 PM
Category: Quake IV

Here is anouther Quake 4 Review already and this one is on StrategyZone Online where they say this:
Much like the Strogg cyborgs, this game is technically brilliant in its construction, but lacks the creativity, variability, and soul needed to make this an enduring classic. The game will appeal to those who simply want to be guided through a shooting gallery, blazing away at the evil Stroggs. Gamers looking for a fresh storyline (which doesn’t rely heavily upon ideas and innovations found in previous titles) will probably have issues with Quake 4.
Hit that Quake 4 Review.
