Welcome to The Hive
News - 07/11/02
Well one of my most awaited
releases of the year has finally arrived; Unreal Tounament 2003.
With a yet more powerful
engine and incorporating key improvements toward mapping workload; allowing
the use of external 3D applications to create 'static meshes' and import them
into a map minimising BSP brushes and cuts; very potent lighting, shadowing,
and particle effects systems; support for very large terrains and 'deco layers'
using organic 'static meshes' such as rocks, trees, and shrubs etc. This has
got to be one of the most potent engines for mappers released to date.
For those who may consider
the transition to learning the Unreal engine in addition to the Quake based
engines, There has been an accompanying site full of tutorials from the basics
of brushes and the editor functionality to advanced topics like the 'Karma'
math engine and AI scripting. It appears that Epic and Digital Extremes are
really pushing the boat out to encourage mapping and modding for this engine
and that's great to see in evidence from the horses' mouths.
So take a trip across
to the Unreal Developers' Network and check it out ( URL below). I will be updating
The Hive to incorporate UT2003 resources, however, I shall not be providing
tutorials etc as I simply couldn't top the excellent one's out there already;
static meshes, textures and tips 'n' tricks etc I shall be.
