Grins Anti-Llama MOD

This mod has been designed to reduce the llama problem that plagues 1on1 blading. Unlike previous mods that have tried to overcome this problem, the mod places virtually no restrictions on the players actions. They can mess around and chat and build pyramids exactly as they normally would. Plus, the mod is server-side only, so there are no downloads required. Additionally, it is fully compatible with ALL existing blade maps.

Nothing in the mod punishes a llama, as I feel that everyone has a right to do whatever they want on a public server. If that annoys the other players, thent that is their problem. What the mod does do is to make being a llama unrewarding. If you cannot kill other players with your llama antics, or cannot hurt them, then all the fun should be taken out of being a llama. Plus, punishing a llama would also result in punishing newbies too, and that is definately a bad thing. The mod does however encourage the llama to go play some ffa, which should keep everyone happy.

The first feature of the mod is that fireballs do no damage. I did this because it is really annoying when someone spawns and accidentally gets you with a fireball, and you then got to run and find health before you play. Also, llamas can no longer damage you if they decide to start throwing fireballs into the arena from the sidelines.

Next, there are two new commands that can be typed in at the console by the player - 'ffa' and '1on1'. These put your player into one of two game modes. Typing 'ffa' will put you into the mods low protection/FFA mode (which is the default mode). ffa mode plays exactly like normal blade, except that players who are in FFA mode can only damage other players in FFA mode. They cannot damage a player who is in 1on1 mode. So, if there are no llamas around, play in the ffa mode, and everything is exactly as it normally would be.

So, a llama comes onto the server. If you are playing a game of ffa, then the llama is just some more meat for your blade. But if you are trying to duel, and are not in the mood for a hunt, type 1on1 into the console. This puts your player into high-protection 1on1 mode. Players in 1on1 mode cannot be hurt by players in ffa mode (ie the llama), they cannot hurt people in ffa mode, and they also cannot hurt other players in 1on1 mode unless a specific set of conditions are met. This prevents the llama from switching to 1on1 mode and wreaking havoc.

Here is a description of the high-protection 1on1 mode.
You enter an arena with your opponent. If you fire a fireball at the opponent, this is taken as a challenge, and your opponent will receive a message informing him/her of your challenge. If the other person is up for it, he fires back at you, thereby accepting your challenge. Now the two of you can blade. You can only damage your opponent and only he can damage you. Easy.

A llama could try switching to 1on1 mode and challenging you with a fireball, but he will not be able to damage you unless you accept his challenge. He may try to get you with his blade, but it will do no damage, and so the llama will probably give up after a few unrewarding slashes.

OK, thats all there is too it. Download it here if you want to try it out on your server. Remember - the mod is still a prototype, and there may be bugs in it. I have tested quite extensively, but you never know what might slip through the net. If you have any criticisms, comments, ideas for the next version or if you can think of a loophole that a llama might squeeze through, email me.
